Free Dinner and Game Night, and Entrepreneurial Leadership Forum

Hope you will join us Friday, Jan 14 at 6pm in the School of Public Health Atrium for our first kickoff dinner of the semester.  Afterward we will be having a game night, and it’s going to be great!  Hope to see you there!  See previous post for more details.

We also wanted to let you know about our first Entrepreneurial Leadership Forum – Join other international students and scholars for an opportunity to meet and interact with Marketplace Leaders from your community. On Tue Jan 18th from 6:30-8:00 join us to hear McKay Belk, vice chairman of Belk stores talk on “Global Leadership for the 21st Century”. Table discussions with local business leaders will follow. The forum is designed to help students improve their leadership skills in the fields of business, science, academia, and more.  A free dinner is included but space is limited so please register by email at UNCinternationalfriends@gmail.com to reserve a seat. This event will be held at  the Michael Hooker Research Center Atrium in the School of Public Health (across the street from the Health Science Library on South Columbia. “Global Leadership for the 21st Century”

From 1998-2009 Mr. Belk was President and Chief Merchandising Officer for all Belk stores. He joined the company in 1979 and subsequently served in a number of stores and corporate management positions over the last 31 years. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, N.C., with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Relations and a Masters degree in Business Administration. Additionally, Mr. Belk is a director of Coca-Cola Consolidated Bottling Company and Beech Tree Labs. He is the past chairman of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce and previously a member of the UVA Families board of directors. Currently he serves on several educational boards including, one of which being the Family Enterprise Institute advisory board at UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School.
