Fri Night Dinner/Karaoke, Can I Trust the Bible?, Hiking Trip, and Winter Break plans???

Free Fri Night Dinner and Karaoke!
We want to invite you all to attend another International Friend’s Friday Night Dinner, this Friday night, Oct 29!

This is a FREE DINNER for all UNC international students, scholars, post-docs, and their families. We will meet at 6pm in the Atrium in the School of Public Health (Michael Hooker Research Building) across the street from the Health Science Library on South Columbia.  (See map here). We will provide a free dinner, enjoy conversation and a chance to meet new people, and afterwards we will have a  “Karaoke Night!” We will have a karaoke machine and songs in English, Chinese, Japanese, and Hindi!  Hope you can join us!

Can I Trust the Bible?
I also wanted to invite you to an event on Tuesday night that is sponsored by RUF (Reformed University Fellowship), a Christian ministry at UNC.  It’s called, ‘Can I Trust the Bible?’ and will be from 8-9pm in the Union auditorium on Tuesday.  The campus pastor of RUF at Duke University, Will Spokes, will be speaking and he has a lot of knowledge about this topic.  He’ll be speaking about how the Bible was compiled, whether it’s 100% accurate or whether there are contradictions and inaccuracies, and whether it’s historically reliable.  I think it will be really good!  If you’d like to come, email katelyn.m.dougherty@gmail.com and we can meet at 7:50 in the Union by Alpine.  I hope you can come!

October 30 Hiking Trip
Finally, this Saturday, Oct 30 is our hiking trip to Hanging Rock State Park, and we have 3 spots left! We will meet at 8:30am at the parking lot in between the Global Fedex Center and the School of Pharmacy, and then will drive the two hours to Hanging Rock.  We’ll spend the day hiking outside, enjoying the beautiful views of mountains and the incredible colors of all the changing leaves.  The cost of the trip is $25 to cover van rentals and gas, and you will also need to bring a lunch to eat at Hanging Rock as well as money for a quick dinner on the way back.  We will be back by 8:30pm Saturday evening.  If you would like to come, please email Kate Hagborg at kate.hagborg@gmail.com to reserve your spot.  We hope you will join us!

Vision Conference in Nashville, TN December 28-January 1
Are you looking for something to do over the winter break?  Are you interested in learning more about Christianity, or growing deeper in your faith?  Then join us at the heart of Country Western music in Nashville, Tennessee for this dynamic gathering. The conference will include exciting general sessions where you will experience the heart of Jesus and seminars where you learn about the practical aspects of following Jesus.

You’ll enjoy having the time to visit the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Grand Ol’ Opry Hotel, which is beautifully decorated for the Christmas holiday.  Nashville also offers a full-size replica of the Parthenon in Athens, Greece.  Nashville is the state capital of Tennessee and is home to the beautiful campus of Vanderbilt University.

Our conference hotel is the beautiful Sheraton Music City Hotel, located near the Nashville airport.Cost of the conference is:

$289/person if staying 4 per room.  But note that the first 350 people who register and pay in full will receive a $100 scholarship—reducing their conference price to $189! You will also need to pay for transportation to Nashville, and we will most likely rent a bus to travel together from Chapel Hill.

You can read more about the conference and register (and get the great discount!) at: http://www.bridgesinternational.com/conferences/vision2010_Nashville/, and you can also email Katelyn Dougherty if you have any questions or would like to sign up: katelyn.m.dougherty@gmail.com.
