Welcome!! Whether you’re new to Carolina, or you’ve been a Tarheel for awhile now, we are so glad you are here and hope that this semester is a great one! International Friends wants to help you make the most of your time here in the US, and we’ve got some fun things planned this semester! Here’s so info about some events this week!
International Student Welcome Picnic: Wednesday, Aug 26, 6pm at the Battle House on Battle Lane (it’s a big white house on the corner of Battle Lane and Senlac Rd, close to Forest Theatre. Directions here.) Come out for some free food, a relaxed atmosphere, and chance to make new friends.
Hoedown: Friday, Aug 28, 5:30pm, in Carrboro at the Farmer’s Market. A hoedown is a traditional southern-American celebration. We do a special dance called a square dance, and it’s so much fun! There will be lessons, so you can all join in. We will also be serving traditional Southern foods like pork barbeque, sweet tea, baked beans, and lots of other foods that the South is famous for. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to experience American culture! Tickets for just the food and dancing at $10, but if you want a Howedown tshirt as well, you can get it all for $15. YOU MUST BUY YOUR TICKETS IN ADVANCE–on sale in the Pit from 11-2pm at the HOEDOWN table. We are providing rides, so email Kate.Hagborg@gmail.com if you want to go (Or email to get a ticket. Day Trip to Wrightsville Beach: Saturday, Aug 29. Meet at Carmichael Dorm on Stadium Dr. at 7:30am on Sat morning. We have rented vans and will all head to the beautiful NC beach, a little over 2 hours away. Bring a bag lunch, water, beach stuff, and money for dinner. We will be back by 8:30pm at the latest.
